Mothering myself Through It
How It Started / How It’s Going
How It Started
I was raised by women who embodied the sacred. My grandmothers were church mothers, community feeders, spiritual anchors. From a young age, I saw what mothering looked like in action. It was warm plates carried to neighbors, sometimes with me tagging along or as the carrier. It was watching my grandmothers sit at the foot of someone’s grief or sick bed, and just be there with grounding sacred presence. It was the soft, steady presence of the Black and Spanish/Native Indigenous women in my family who prayed, who served, who blessed, who tended. I didn’t have language for it back then. I just knew it as Grandmother, Auntie, Church Mothers. I didn’t realize yet that what I was witnessing, what was imprinting itself upon me and into my life experience, was the Divine Mother herself.
As I grew older, I witnessed my aging mother enter this beautiful frequency of mothering and lineage. She went through her own rites of passage in many ways and came out embracing and embodying the frequency.

One by one, many of the matriarchs who once held me transitioned from this realm. Their love and spirit are still deeply with me, felt in quiet moments, in warm memory and stories, and even in the way I move through the world. I began to see them in me. One year after my mother’s earthly departure, something awakened and rose within me. A quiet knowing: it’s time to step into the line.
We’re still blessed to have my bonus grandmother, Mama Pug, who remains a steady light in the family. Like my grandmother Lalah, she carried me with her to countless church meetings, on visits to neighbors, elders, and local community members in need. I watched how she made meals that warmed both bodies and spirits, how she spoke life into others, how she offered presence as a form of healing. Her spirituality and love were lived, not just spoken.
And my aunts, most of whom are not part of the digital world, still radiate the frequency I grew up with. Their way of being brings me back to a softer time, a world that moved slower, with more eye contact, more sitting together, more acts filled with love. Being with them feels like a return home. In a world that’s so fast, so online, so distracted, their presence is grounding medicine.
I now find myself rising alongside them all, not only as one who receives, but as one who carries. One who tends. One who knows the medicine of the lineage because I have lived inside it so deeply.
Self-mothering, for me, began not in the absence of love, but in the realization of legacy.
And now, I embody what was graciously poured into me, in my own unique way, through my own life’s journey, unravelings, and unfolding.
How it’s Going
Now, mothering myself is no longer an idea. It’s a lifestyle. A sacred rhythm.
It’s the way I breathe. It’s the way I pour tea. It’s the way I pause before responding, tend to my home, prepare my meals, and support my own development and healing journeys.
My home is alive now, as a temple. My kitchen is a portal. I’ve shared on this in our VHD theme Home Sanctuary. More to come, and more to expand into.
My healing journey, especially post-surgery, has been held not just by my medical team or protocols, but by the Divine Mother herself. She moves through various aspects of my day, through the scent of roses and rose water, the aroma of herbal infusions, warm healing meals, baking, and prayer. Among a host of other ways.
Declaration:
I am no longer waiting to be mothered. I am it. I embody Her. I am Her.

On the Hardest Moments
One of the most profound places I’ve had to mother myself through is the visibility work that comes with my divine life path work. The fear, the vulnerability, the nerves before the leap, showing up in a noisy world. I had to mother myself into permission. Permission to be seen. Permission to speak from my heart and spirit. Permission to believe that I was here for this, and that I was a conduit who can do it.
Mothering myself through visibility looked like cheering myself on, rooting for myself, and nourishing my nervous system, energy, body, and spirit behind the scenes. It meant tending to myself through the anxiety, the unknowns, the challenges, the pressure. Through sacred meals, soft healing music and sounds , sacred space, and warm lights and atmosphere, I created a world that could hold me and nurture who I was becoming. And that’s how I kept showing up. Over and over again.
It’s a kind of tending that continues to remind me that:
I am loved and supported, divinely.
The Shift Out of Survival Mode
Mothering myself meant learning to stop running. It meant heeding the medicine words of Thich Nhat Hanh: “I have arrived. I am home.”
For so long, I lived in chronic survival mode. Burning energy just to stay ahead of the next threat. But survival was never the goal. Healing was. Praise God!
Mothering became the path that allowed me to slow down, to trust peace, to no longer equate “struggle” with love or friendships. I began to chose relationships that brought calm, divine alignment, and harmony. I made space in my life for slow mornings, deep breaths, and challenge zones that didn’t overwhelm, but stretched me just enough. And that shift out of the frantic and into the faithful changed everything.
Declaration: I align with divine trust and harmony.
Becoming the Divine Mother’s Vessel
The Divine Mother has come to me in so many ways. Through hugs, warm words, healing touch, rose petals, rose sprays, meditation, devotion, sacred silence. I began feeling her through my writing, teaching, through the way I dressed, softened, moved, and perceived. I didn’t just call Her in, She became me. She moved through me. I could feel Her in my hands as I prepared meals and teas. I could hear Her in my voice as I spoke to my younger selves with tenderness and grace. I could feel her as I forgave and moved forward healed, whole, and lighter.
When my friends sent me roses post-surgery, I knew instantly: She is here. And not just here. She is staying.
The rose is Divine Mother medicine. It carries Her nearness, Her nurturing, Her grace, Her knowing.

My Favorite Ways to Mother Myself Now
I mother myself in the kitchen, in the temple of my home, in the quiet way I prepare a sacred space. I mother myself by letting joy be part of my rhythm, by dancing freely in soft clothes, by swaying to music, by baking something warm and sweet or soulful.
I mother myself by paying attention to what I need in each day or at any given moment. I read my myself and take responsibility to tend to what arises to the best of my ability. And if it’s too much for just me alone, I integrate support. Lovingly and without shame. This too is mothering.
And I mother every version of me: little Lalah, teenage Lalah, grown Lalah. I speak to her with love. I make my home a safe haven and refuge for her and every version and aspect of myself.
Some days, I slow down to acknowledge Her. I pause to feel how blessed I am to be able to mother myself this way and how cathartic and empowering it is.
Declaration: I am Her. She is here with me always.
I am guided and supported. I am no longer running. I am home.

For Those Who Are In It
If you are journeying through something challenging right now, if you feel alone, unsupported, unnourished, or uncared for, if you feel alone in your healing or your becoming, or if you’re simply ready to embrace the Divine Mother within you, I’d love to leave you with these words that came through during my Divine Download audio note this month:
I allow. I open. I receive.
Let these be your medicine words.
They’ve been mine ever since I spoke them on the Divine Download.
I even shared them in spiritual community this past Sunday, and I witnessed how deeply they supported souls.
Allow the Divine Mother access to you, so that you may access Her.
Open your heart, your field, your timeline, and the rhythm of your breath to the love that is waiting to pour in.
And receive.
Receive the blessings of your own mothering presence. Receive the life that softens when you stop running or searching outside of yourself. Receive what you never thought you could have, or even imagined was possible
possible.
Even if you didn’t have a mother, had the support of one only in part, or have a mother now on the other shore, you can still mother yourself beautifully. Spiritually. Energetically. Mystically.
Because only you know what was (or still is) missing. And now, you can give it to yourself through ‘Mothering Yourself Through It’.
You are the mother you’ve been waiting for.
You are initiated.
You are rising.
You are home.
Welcome to the sacred lineage.
May you mother yourself with the grace of the Divine, the wisdom of your lineage, and the love and presence you’ve always deserved.
